European Freight Service Leader Rolls-out Fingerprint Drug Testing Solution

Cambridge, UK, June 29, 2023 — Palletways – Europe’s largest provider of express palletised distribution services – is rolling out the innovative Intelligent Fingerprinting drug testing system across its depot network.

Palletways is using the fingerprint drug test, which uses sweat to determine if employees have recently ingested illicit drugs that could affect their fitness to work, as part of its employee induction process.

The Company has purchased nine Intelligent Fingerprinting DSR-Plus fingerprint Drug Screening Cartridge Readers to make fingerprint drug testing readily available across its depot network. Sample collection using patented Drug Screening Cartridges takes less than a minute, with an on-screen positive or negative drug screening result for each drug in the test available in just ten minutes via the portable DSR-Plus Reader. Having access to the Intelligent Fingerprinting system in-house will also enable the Palletways team to test immediately in the rare occurrence of an accident to quickly eliminate if illicit drugs are present that could have affected the accident. Palletways is also purchasing Intoximeter alcohol tests for a combined workplace testing offer.

Kristie Hawkins, Manager of Palletways Birmingham Depot, said: “The company has a very good safety record, and introducing the highly visual Intelligent Fingerprinting Drug Test as part of the induction process is very important to us. We make sure that our new employees are tested for both drugs and alcohol as part of our induction process to introduce them proactively to our Drug and Alcohol Misuse Policy. Adherence to our policy helps prevent accidents for our employees and the general public while also supporting and protecting the reputation of our company.”

Palletways replaces saliva drug tests with a cleaner fingerprint method.

“The decision for Palletways to switch from using the old saliva swab test method to a simpler fingerprint test has been very well received,” adds Kristie. “The Intelligent Fingerprinting test is more hygienic for both the employee and the tester and is also less intrusive without compromising on performance. The change from swab testing to fingerprint testing has been well received across the Palletways depot network, with our employees and those responsible for testing appreciating its non-invasive nature.”

“Our Intelligent Fingerprinting drug testing solution is increasingly being chosen over more traditional approaches such as saliva and urine as it makes it much more hygienic to carry out in-house for-cause, random or pre-employment testing,” added Philip Hand, Executive Chairman of Intelligent Fingerprinting. “Palletways joins the growing list of transport and logistics specialists that are turning to fingerprint testing to support their workplace drug screening. A key factor driving this is the much shorter window of detection offered by fingerprint-based drug testing, meaning that firms can now provide much greater certainty about fitness for duty for their employees.
