  • Gardening Supplier, Hozelock, to Roll Out Hygienic and Non-Invasive Intelligent Fingerprinting for Drug Tests to Promote Employee Safety

Global garden equipment manufacturer Hozelock has introduced Intelligent Fingerprinting’s sweat-based drug testing system to support employee safety across its UK operations. The company will use the portable fingerprint test to detect recent use of cocaine, cannabis, methamphetamine, or opioids among its workforce.

Convenient Testing for a Seasonal Workforce

With employee numbers fluctuating between 320 and 650 depending on seasonal demand, Hozelock needed a drug testing solution that could be managed easily by HR teams. The fingerprint-based system is quick, hygienic, and non-invasive, allowing staff to conduct on-the-spot testing in less than ten minutes without specialist training.

Backed by the Trade Union

Before introducing the new approach, Hozelock consulted Unite, its trade union, who gave full backing to the fingerprint system. The portable nature of the tests also helps reinforce the company’s drug and alcohol policy to both new and potential employees.

Respecting Privacy While Ensuring Safety

Andrew Parker, Hozelock’s Human Resources Manager, explained:

“Fingerprint testing is a dignified way to carry out random in-house drug tests, which play a vital role in maintaining Hozelock’s excellent safety record. Unlike urine or saliva methods, the fingerprint system respects employees’ privacy while focusing only on whether someone is fit for work. With its sub-24 hour detection window, we’re protecting staff safety without intruding into personal lives.”

A Safer Choice for Safety-Critical Roles

Harry Simeonidis, President and CEO of Intelligent Bio Solutions, added:

“Employees under the influence of drugs in safety-critical environments can pose risks to themselves and their colleagues. By adopting fingerprint drug testing, Hozelock is demonstrating its commitment to both workplace safety and employee dignity.”

How the System Works

The Intelligent Fingerprinting system uses a small, tamper-evident Cartridge to collect sweat samples from all ten fingertips in under a minute. The portable analysis unit then processes the Cartridge and provides on-screen results for each drug in the panel within ten minutes.

About Intelligent Fingerprinting

Intelligent Fingerprinting’s portable Drug Screening System works by analysing fingerprint sweat. It is non-invasive, fast, and cost-effective, with sample collection taking seconds and simultaneous screening for multiple drug groups in ten minutes. A laboratory confirmation service is also available. The system has applications within many sectors, and customers include employers in safety-critical industries such as construction, transport and logistics firms, drug treatment organisations, and UK coroners.

Intelligent Fingerprinting is a wholly owned subsidiary of Intelligent Bio Solutions Inc. (Nasdaq: INBS).
